CogAT Grade 8 practice questions

Do your child’s eyes catch patterns that others might miss?

The Figure Classification section of the CogAT Grade 8 Nonverbal Battery challenges students to identify relationships between shapes and decide which figure fits—or doesn’t fit—the group.

In this section, students are presented with three or more figures that share a specific relationship, such as shape, pattern, size, or orientation. Their task is to choose the figure that belongs to the same group or identify the one that is different. This type of question measures visual reasoning, abstract thinking, and pattern recognition—skills essential for gifted program assessments and academic success.

With the Gifted CogAT Test Prep App, your child can practice targeted Figure Classification questions designed specifically for Grade 8. Each question helps students identify patterns, relationships, and rules between figures, building the logic and visual intelligence required to excel on the Nonverbal Battery.

We’ve included 10 free CogAT Figure Classification practice questions for Grade 8 below. These examples mirror the structure, difficulty, and reasoning style of the actual CogAT exam, giving you a clear sense of your child’s current abilities and areas to focus on.
