CogAT Verbal practice questions Grade 7

Can your child spot the word that doesn’t belong—or the one that completes a set?

That’s exactly what the Verbal Classification section of the CogAT Grade 7 Verbal Battery tests.

In this part of the exam, students are given a set of three words that are related in some way—by meaning, category, or association—and must choose a fourth word that belongs in the same group. It sounds simple, but it requires strong vocabulary knowledge, logical reasoning, and conceptual understanding.

With the Gifted CogAT Test Prep App, your child can strengthen these verbal reasoning skills through targeted Verbal Classification practice questions that mirror real CogAT formats. Each question helps them think critically about relationships between words, improving not only their test readiness but also their overall language development.

We’ve included 10 free CogAT Verbal Classification practice questions for Grade 7 below. These questions are designed to reflect the style, format, and difficulty of the actual gifted and talented test. Use them as a quick skill check or a warm-up before full-length practice sessions.
